Essential Fabric Care: Laundry Tips

Once you have invested in a quality wardrobe, proper garment care is essential to preserve their look, fit, and feel. Many people ruin premium fabrics by using incorrect washing and drying techniques. By following a few simple laundry habits, you can extend the lifespan of your clothes and keep them looking new for years. First, always separate your laundry by color and weight. Wash light colors separately from darks to prevent color bleeding. Additionally, avoid washing heavy items like jeans or towels with delicate t-shirts and shirts, as friction can damage thin fabrics. Second, wash your clothes in cold water. Cold water is gentler on fibers, prevents shrinkage, and protects colors from fading. Turn garments inside out before washing to protect the outer surface from friction and pilling. Finally, air-dry your clothes whenever possible. High heat from dryers damages elastic fibers, shrinks cotton, and weakens fabric structure. Laying garments flat to dry or hanging them on hangers preserves their shape and keeps them fresh.
